TOPIC:
WE ARE ABLE

MEMORISE

Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it" (Numbers 13:30).

READ:
Numbers 13:30-33

[30]. Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”

[31]. But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.”

[32]. And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.

[33]. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

EXPOSITION

         Let the knowledge and understanding of God shape and sharpen your perception about yourself. His promises in His Word should be the only report you reckon with to live a fulfilled life here on earth (cf. 2 Cor. 1:20). Having a limited mind-set does not only affect you but others around you. In today's Scripture reading, the 10 of the 12 leaders sent as spies saw themselves as grasshoppers; they were moved and lived by sight (2 Cor. 5:7). They returned and gave their myopic report which most of the people believed, and so, were befallen by the same fate. Their response revealed that they agreed to it. And they all missed the promise together, except for Caleb and Joshua. When you focus on your challenges instead of subjecting to God's Word, you are living by sight, and may never receive God's victory over the challenge.

    Beware of spiritually myopic and pessimistic people. You can't partner with them, if you would achieve all that God has for you. They are unstable/inconsistent in their ways. Instead, speak God's Word concerning you into reality. You can do all things (overcome that challenge, get that admission, marry that godly and virtuous sister/brother, win that contract, get that visa) through Christ Who strengthens you (Php. 4:13). Believe it and see it come to pass. Why? With God, nothing shall be impossible!

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB 638

1. Give me the faith which can remove
 And sink the mountain to a plain;
 Give me the child-like praying love,
 Which longs to build thy house again;
 Thy love let it my heart o'erpow'r,
 And all my simple soul devour.

2. I want an even strong desire,
 I want a calmly fervent zeal
 To have poor souls out of the fire,
 To snatch them from the verge of hell
 And turn them to a pardoning God,
 And quench the brands in Jesus' blood.

3. I would the precious time redeem,
 And longer live for this alone,
 To spend, and to be spent, for them
 Who have not yet my Saviour known;
 Fully on these my mission prove,
 And only breathe, to breathe Thy love.

4. My talents, gifts, and graces, Lord,
 Into Thy blessed hands receive;
 And let me live to preach Thy word,
 And let me to Thy glory live;
 My every sacred moment spend
 In publishing the sinner's Friend.

5. Enlarge, inflame, and fill my heart
 With boundless charity divine!
 So shall I all my strength exert,
 And love them with a zeal like Thine;
 And lead them to Thy open side,
 The sheep for whom their Shepherd died.

Amen.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Thank God for His promises for your life, the fulfilled and yet to be fulfilled.

2. Pray that God should destroy every grasshopper mentality militating against your progress in life.

3. Jehovah Rapha, help brethren in precarious health situations at the verge of giving up on You to revive their faith again.
